BigBand Networks Debuts Innovative Video Management Capabilities
BigBand VMS simplifies video operations, accelerates service turn-up times and enhances network troubleshooting and maintenance
April 2, 2008
REDWOOD CITY, Calif., April 2, 2008—BigBand Networks, Inc., (NASDAQ: BBND), a leading innovator in video networking, today announced a new video management system (VMS) designed to simplify video service deployment and operations, enhance video service delivery and reduce network operating costs. BigBand’s VMS expedites and simplifies network management by automating configuration changes—including the addition of new network elements and services—for small and large-scale networks. BigBand’s first release of VMS is being deployed in North America and is available worldwide.
“As video networks grow in complexity and scale, the need for video-specific network management has become more acute,” said Tara Howard, analyst of enabling technologies for the Yankee Group. “The myriad network elements required to support a large-scale video service deployment can be expensive and time consuming to manage. Solutions such as BigBand’s VMS can help significantly reduce operating costs, simplify the deployment and operation of video services, and enhance service quality as competition for end users continues to intensify.”
Specific benefits of BigBand’s VMS include:
• Topology Management to simplify operations. With a user-friendly graphical interface and hierarchical map layout, VMS can logically and geographically partition network elements across different organizational groups.
• Fault Management to improve network availability. VMS leverages a range of views, events, alarms and real-time performance statistics to allow operators to quickly and easily pin-point and troubleshoot network or service problems.
• Element Management & Mass Configuration for faster and more efficient change management. VMS allows multiple network elements to be quickly and simultaneously configured, changed or replicated by multiple, concurrent users across a network. Examples can include mass software upgrades, backup and restore functions, and other standard configuration changes.
• Reduced operating costs. VMS’ surveillance, configuration, provisioning, northbound systems integration, performance and security management capabilities are designed to empower BigBand’s video solution portfolio and assist in reducing operational expenses, minimizing service rollout times and improving network quality.
“VMS reduces the costs and complexities associated with managing digital video services,” said David Heard, chief operating officer of BigBand Networks. “This new tool will allow operators to significantly improve the reliability and performance of their video services, and enable more efficient network operations.”
