BigBand Networks Switched Broadcast Earns Near-Perfect Score from Broadband Gear Report's 2007 Diamond Technology Reviews

BigBand's switched digital video solution earns 4.5 Diamond rating for maximizing bandwidth capacity, reducing costs and enabling revenue-generating digital services

June 20, 2007

ORLANDO, Fla., SCTE Cable-Tec EXPO, June 20, 2007—BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBND) today announced that its switched digital video solution—Switched Broadcast—received a 4.5 Diamond rating out of a maximum 5.0 from Broadband Gear Report’s (BGR) 2007 Diamond Technology Reviews, one of the broadband industry’s top technology reviews programs.

BGR’s Diamond Ratings are a composite of scores assigned by each member of an independent judging panel, based upon on a range of criteria. Those criteria include the product or solution’s unique features and benefits, with an emphasis on ability to reduce operational expenses and generate new revenues, or revenue sources. Products entered into the 2007 Diamond Technology Reviews program were reviewed and scored by at least three of the five members of the 2007 panel, which included engineering executives from Bright House Networks, Charter Communications, Comcast, Cox Communications and Rogers Communications.

“The BGR Diamond Technology Reviews program is extremely selective and BigBand is honored to have received such a high rating for switched digital video, a technology that we pioneered,” said Biren Sood, vice president and manager of cable video Americas for BigBand Networks. “BigBand’s high score is in part an acknowledgement of the fact that we’ve taken switched digital video from a concept to a reliable, commercially-deployed solution.”

BigBand Switched Broadcast is a highly cost-effective, reliable switched digital video (SDV) solution that directs live programming only where it is requested by viewers, instead of delivering all programming to all subscribers at all times. Switched Broadcast is designed to allow cable operators to expand HDTV and other digital programming without requiring expensive plant upgrades. BigBand Networks is now deploying its fourth-generation product, with support for open protocols and open systems, and, the company believes, the widest variety of integrated operating environments available today. BigBand’s switched digital video solution passes approximately 6.5 million households across multiple commercial deployments.

BigBand will demonstrate Switched Broadcast and a range of other technologies in booth 2164 at SCTE’s Cable-Tec EXPO 2007 Wednesday, June 20th through Friday, June 22nd at the Orlando Convention Center.
