BigBand Networks to Demonstrate Industry-Leading Switched Digital Video Solution at KCTA 2007

Switched video pioneer to demonstrate proven, cost-effective solutions for Korean digital TV and HDTV expansion

June 12, 2007

Jeju, South Korea, KCTA Conference, June 12, 2007—BigBand Networks, Inc., (NASDAQ: BBND) the pioneer and deployment leader of switched digital video, today announced that it will demonstrate its industry-leading switched video solution and other video innovations June 13-15 in Booth A-3 at KCTA 2007, Korea’s premier interactive digital cable television conference and exhibition. BigBand also announced the opening of a new office in Bundang, near Seoul, to support the Korean market.

Switched digital video has captured the attention of the Korean cable industry as a cost-effective method to expand digital and HDTV programming in the wake of the South Korean government’s announcement in May that the country plans to end analog television broadcasting, and only allow digital services, by 2012. BigBand’s switched digital video solution creates capacity for new digital programming, including HDTV, by delivering existing programming only where it is requested by viewers, instead of delivering all programming to all subscribers at all times. BigBand’s solution has been selected by three of the five largest cable operators in the U.S., and its commercial deployments pass more than six million homes.

BigBand will demonstrate multiple technologies in addition to switched digital video at KCTA 2007, including:

• Headend-in-a-Box. This demonstration will show how the BigBand Broadband Multimedia-Service Router (BMR®) functions as a complete “headend-in-a-box” solution to provide rateshaping, scrambling, RF modulation and other functionality that would otherwise require multiple products from other vendors. The BigBand BMR is also a key component of switched digital video deployments.

• IPTV over DOCSIS®. This demonstration illustrates how cable operators can deliver IP-based video to either TVs or PCs leveraging their quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) and CMTS equipment. The demonstration leverages BigBand’s modular CMTS (M-CMTS) architecture and two key DOCSIS 3.0 features—downstream channel bonding and DOCSIS 3.0 Multicast forwarding—to deliver the IP video.
