Largest Cable Operator In Puerto Rico Selects DOCSIS 2.0 Platform For Broadband IP Services

REDWOOD CITY, CA - BigBand Networks, Inc., a leading provider of network platforms for video, voice and data services, today announced that OneLink Communications has completed deployment of the BigBand CudaŽ CMTS (cable modem termination system). The Puerto Rican operator has selected this platform to replace previously deployed equipment in its upgrade to DOCSIS 2.0 which is designed to achieve high access speeds at improved reliability and quality of service. With 138,000 subscribers in the greater San Juan area, OneLink Communications is the largest cable operator in Puerto Rico.

"Selecting and deploying the BigBand Cuda is the result of our engineering team's diligent search which emphasized both excellent technical capabilities of the platform as well as excellent services from the provider," said Jean Simmons, president of OneLink Communications and chair of the Caribbean Cable and Telecommunications Association. "With intentions to enhance services for our subscribers, it is vital that ambitious Caribbean operators like OneLink Communications work with providers like BigBand Networks that combine technical proficiency with attentive service in areas such as training and customer support."

OneLink Communications was formed during 2005 as an independently financed entity spun out from Adelphia Communications. The operator also utilizes the BigBand BMRŽ (Broadband Multimedia-Service Router) as a platform to control its digital broadcast television offerings. It implemented the Cuda CMTS during 2005 to provide subscribers with multi-megabit per second broadband Internet access.

"BigBand Networks and OneLink Communications are expanding our solid foundation of collaboration across multiple service offerings," said Pirjo Tuomi, senior vice president of worldwide sales for BigBand Networks. "The work that we are doing with OneLink Communications underscores BigBand Networks' comprehensive commitment to the Caribbean and Latin American markets for broadband, multimedia services."

BigBand Networks is planning to demonstrate its Cuda, BMR and other platforms at booth #156 of the upcoming Cable-Tec Expo produced by SCTE (Society of Cable and Telecommunications Engineers) which will run June 21 - 23 in Denver, Colorado.
