BigBand Networks Integrates Switched Broadcast with TV Guide's i-Guide(tm)

Switched Broadcast's integration with innovative electronic programming guide is designed to enhance the viewer's experience of switched digital video

May 7, 2007

LAS VEGAS, THE CABLE SHOW, May 7, 2007—BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBND), today announced that it has integrated its switched broadcast solution with TV Guide’s i-Guide to enhance the viewer’s experience with switched digital video. BigBand Switched Broadcast is the most widely-deployed solution of its kind, and now passes six million households.

The i-Guide integration with BigBand Switched Broadcast reduces the complexity of deployments and related operating expenses. This enables operators to provide consumers a common user experience for advanced video services including switched digital video, video-on-demand (VOD), digital video recorder (DVR) and interactive services, independent of the underlying hardware infrastructure.

“We are pleased to be able to support BigBand’s and the cable industry’s efforts in the deployment of switched digital,” said Tom Carson, President, TV Guide Interactive Program Guides. “It is very important to us to integrate switched digital solutions with our guides.”

Switched broadcast is designed to allow operators to add new programming, including HDTV, without requiring more expensive spectrum expansion. For switched video to be successful, it must be invisible to the viewer, meaning near-instant channel change, a typical surfing experience and seamless use of electronic program guides.

“TV Guide’s applications greatly enhance the viewer experience and are widely deployed in the cable industry,” said Biren Sood, BigBand’s vice president and manager of cable video Americas. “Commercial deployments of our switched broadcast solution are growing rapidly, and this integration gives operators more options in the way they implement the technology.”

BigBand and TV Guide will demonstrate the interoperability of their solutions in booth #4275 at The Cable Show next week, May 7-9 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.
