BigBand Networks Announces 5 Year IP Service Provisioning Contract For Cox Communications

January 17, 2006

Fourth Largest US Cable Operator to expand deployment of BigBand's FastFlow BPM across Cox High Speed Internet and Cox Digital Telephone Services

Redwood City, Calif. - BigBand Networks, Inc., a leading provider of broadband multimedia infrastructure for video, voice and data, today announced that it signed a five year agreement with Cox Communications. The cable operator will extend its use of BigBand's FastFlow® BPM (Broadband Provisioning Manager) to provision Cox High Speed Internet (CHSI) and VoIP-based Cox Digital Telephone services and features. The fourth largest cable operator in the US, Cox Communications currently uses BigBand's FastFlow to provision other offerings to broadband internet, voice and commercial data subscribers.

"Cox has experienced significant growth as consumers realize the benefits of bundling their voice, data and video services from one trusted provider," said Mark Yang, Executive Director of Data Products and Services Operations and Engineering, Cox Communications. "Assuring that our customers' needs are met, whether it's signing up for a new service or assigning an IP address to their modem, is vital to maintaining high service levels and low churn. BigBand's FastFlow BPM is a great solution for provisioning those services, because it offers flexibility to meet our changing needs as well as scalability to handle significant customer growth."

FastFlow BPM is designed to support both voice and internet access over a single server, minimizing upfront investment and long term costs. Its distributed framework is highly scalable, adapting as the number of IP-based services, content providers, networked devices, and subscribing customer base grows. This increased scalability allows FastFlow BPM to avoid performance issues often associated with centralized provisioning systems while reducing the impact on the cost of network operations created by the rollout of new services and subscribers.

"This is a clear indication that our solutions have delivered as promised and will continue to be a part of Cox's future plans," said Amir Bassan-Eskenazi, president and CEO of BigBand Networks. "We take that responsibility very seriously and will continue to work closely with Cox to integrate products, such as FastFlow, that are robust, easy to use, designed to reduce costs and enhance subscriber satisfaction by providing better services that integrate more media. BigBand Networks is committed to helping Cox deliver the best services in a seamless, easy to use, high quality setting."

Cox Communications has been a BigBand Cuda® customer since 2000, using the platform for CHSI service and several VoIP-based Cox Digital Telephone launches. Cox has also utilized the BigBand BMR® for advanced digital video technologies across the country, such as grooming, RateShaping®, HDTV, digital advertising insertion, and Gigabit Ethernet transport of video.
