BigBand Networks Names Doug Jones Chief Architect Cable

REDWOOD CITY, CA - BigBand Networks, Inc., a leading provider of broadband multimedia infrastructure for video, voice and data, today announced the appointment of Doug Jones to chief architect, cable. Bringing over 20 years of industry experience, including driving the technical specifications for DOCSIS® and CableHome, Mr. Jones is responsible for the strategic and technical direction of BigBand Networks' solutions for the cable market. He most recently served as chief architect for YAS Broadband, a leading broadband consulting firm, and previously worked on advanced video and broadband initiatives of major telecom and cable operators. Mr. Jones reports to Ran Oz, chief technology officer and executive vice president of BigBand Networks.

Mr. Jones is guiding innovations for BigBand Networks' solutions spanning digital services over cable networks. These solutions are configured on established platforms including: the BigBand BMR®, which accomplishes routing and processing of video and other multimedia content; BigBand Cuda®, a CableLabs-certified, scalable and modular cable modem termination system that supports delivery of a wide variety of differentiated IP services; BigBand BME®, a high-density platform for edge processing of GigE-delivered video, voice and data content; and BigBand FastFlow® BPM (Broadband Provisioning Manager), which is a management solution to establish and support services to cable modems, DOCSIS set-top boxes and other residential IP-based devices.

While at YAS Broadband, Mr. Jones was responsible for the technical vision of the company, working with major cable operators to deploy advanced technologies and services. Additionally, he has driven technical product requirements from inception to deployment including the CableLabs DOCSIS and CableHome projects for broadband IP delivery over cable access networks and within home environments, respectively. Mr. Jones has also held technical positions at MediaOne, U S WEST Advanced Technologies and Bell Communications Research (Bellcore) with a focus on telecommunications and broadband content distribution and consumption.
Mr. Jones holds a bachelors of science degree in medical technology from the State University of New York at Albany, as well as a bachelors of science degree in electrical engineering and a masters of science in engineering from the University of Texas.
