BigBand Highlights Advanced Media Processing And Converged Video Delivery At SCTE Cable Tec Expo 2009

Executives discuss video concurrency and linear addressable advertising

October 19, 2009

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., Oct. 19, 2009—BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBND), a leader in digital video networking, will highlight advanced media processing technologies that leverage the existing network to monetize and deliver high quality, video services with an evolutionary roadmap to converged video delivery in booth #13080 at SCTE Cable-Tec Expo®, October 28-30, 2009, in Denver, CO.

Booth demonstrations will include:

Intelligent network-based platforms that enable rapid scaling and monetization of video services in today’s competitive marketplace:

Switched Digital Video (SDV) – the market’s leading SDV solution, deployed by seven of the top 10 service providers in North America. BigBand's SDV solution is the fastest way to reap dramatic savings in bandwidth consumption, allowing cable operators to increase revenues via expanded program offerings and the delivery of personalized services.

Converged Video Exchange (CVEx™) – an intelligent software control plane that helps service providers achieve a converged network for reliable video delivery. CVEx is designed to unify the way that service providers deliver and manage all video services across the network edge, to traditional MPEG set-top boxes and next generation IP devices.

vIP PASS™ – a cost effective video routing solution designed to help service providers capitalize on existing infrastructure, deliver web-based and managed video services to a broad range of IP devices via DOCSIS 3.0 modems that tremendously saves on infrastructure expense.

New QAM innovation that solves bandwidth needs at the network edge and offers the bandwidth management tools needed to fully optimize QAM deployments:

New edge QAMs – BigBand will highlight new additions to its innovative and market-leading edge QAM products. The QAM platform addresses the growing bandwidth needs at the edge of the network and ensures that legacy QAMs work seamlessly with new software and hardware upgrades.

Comprehensive management tools that help operators optimize today’s networks and enhance SDV resources in support of the migration from RF to IP:

Next-generation Switched Video Analysis tool that further operationalizes SDV infrastructure, providing enhanced bandwidth insight to support the migration to next generation IP networks. The comprehensive analysis tool also works in concert with CVEx to help manage network resources across the converged network edge.

Additionally, BigBand executives will present technical papers on the impact that video concurrency rates have on the IPTV network and virtual zoning as an intermediary step in reaching fully addressable linear advertising during the following sessions:

Doug Jones, chief architect for BigBand, will present the Concurrency of Video and the Impact on IPTV Network Capacity Planning, during the workshop “DOCSIS® BW Requirements: Past, Present & Future,” October 30th at 2:30 p.m.

Yaron Raz, Director of Video Solutions Marketing for BigBand, will present the technical paper Linear Advertising Migration and Virtual Zoning, on the workshop “Advanced Advertising—Migration Paths,” October 29th at 9:30 a.m.

SCTE Cable-Tec Expo® 2009 is being held at the Colorado Convention Center, Denver, CO.
