BIGBAND SHIPS 500,000 INDUSTRY-LEADING EDGE QAMS

BEQ™ Edge QAM platform leads in market share and outperforms on reliability and cost effectiveness

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., May 5, 2009—BigBand Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: BBND), a leader in digital video networking, today announced that it has shipped one-half of one million edge QAM, which BigBand believes is an industry first. Nearly 60 service providers worldwide have selected BigBand's edge QAM platforms, including the current BEQ™6000, for efficient and reliable delivery of advanced video and data services. The market-proven BEQ series QAM platform continues to out pace competing platforms, leading the industry in reliability, offering the lowest total cost of ownership, and supporting unique applications that offer additional savings and revenue opportunities.
