Amir Bassan-Eskenazi, Chairman of the Board
Amir Bassan-Eskenazi is the chief executive officer, chairman of the board and co-founder of BigBand Networks. Recognizing the advancement of video, voice and data services provided over broadband networks, Bassan-Eskenazi is dedicated to optimizing operators' infrastructure. He has led BigBand Networks' activities from conception through successful implementations with the leading global service providers, driving content to tens of millions of subscribers. Bassan-Eskenazi's success with BigBand Networks extends a record of leadership in the establishment of the digital video. He was previously an executive of industry pioneer Optibase where he rose to executive vice president of marketing and chief operating officer. Other roles with Optibase included development engineering, technical support, project management, product planning, marketing, business development, pre-sales and sales. Bassan-Eskenazi was a member of the JPEG Committee, has published on the future of broadband multimedia services, and holds several patents. He graduated from Technion Institute of Technology, where he studied electrical engineering.
Lloyd Carney
Lloyd Carney is general manager Netcool Products IBM, responsible for integrating Micromuse Netcool solutions into the IBM Tivoli Portfolio. The former CEO of Micromuse, he joined IBM via its acquisition of the company. Prior to Micromuse, Mr. Carney was at Juniper Networks, where he served as chief operating officer and executive vice president. He oversaw a broad range of business operations including the sales, marketing, engineering, manufacturing, and customer service organizations. Before Juniper Networks, he held various executive positions at Nortel Networks, including president of the Enterprise Division, a multi-billion dollar voice and data services business unit, and president of the Wireless Internet Division, a carrier-focused multi-billion dollar business unit delivering advanced wireless technologies to the marketplace. Mr. Carney joined Nortel via its acquisition of Bay Networks. He was EVP of Bay Networks; responsible for all of product development. He joined Bay Networks' predecessor company, Wellfleet Communications, in 1990 as director of technical operations and was appointed vice president of customer support in 1993. Mr. Carney holds a master's degree from Leslie College, and a bachelor's degree and associate's degree in electrical engineering technology from Wentworth Institute.
Dean Gilbert
Dean Gilbert was executive vice president and general manager of @Home Networks from 1996 to 1999, where he was responsible for creating services and building relationships with cable operators. He managed field operations, deployment, business development, partner relations, and various marketing activities, successfully securing annual revenues of over $275 million. Prior to his work at @Home, Mr. Gilbert was president and CEO of Positive Communications, a Silicon Valley start-up, which he grew to $50 million in annual revenues. He previously managed divisions with annual revenues over $250 million as executive vice president, group operations for cable operator Paragon Cable, which was sold to Time Warner Cable. Mr. Gilbert currently serves as managing partner for Sandalwood Investments, an independent venture investment and consulting firm. He also serves on the board of directors and is an advisor to several prominent start-up companies in broadband multimedia networking.
Ken Goldman
Ken Goldman was senior vice president, finance and administration, and chief financial officer of Siebel Systems from 2000 through its acquisition by Oracle in 2006. Prior to Siebel Systems, he served as senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Excite@Home, and senior vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Sybase. Other chief financial officer positions that Mr. Goldman has held were with Cypress Semiconductor and VLSI Technology. He is a member and the former president of The Financial Executive Institute, Santa Clara chapter and was formerly an advisory council member of the Financial Accounting Standards Board. He is an advisory board member for the Harvard Business School California Research Center, a member of the West Coast Chief Financial Officer Roundtable, a member of the FEI Committee for Financial and Information Technology and a member of the NASDAQ's Issuer Affairs Committee. He serves as a trustee on the board of The Menlo School and Cornell University. Mr. Goldman holds a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from Cornell University, and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School.
Gal Israely
Mr. Israely is a founder of Cedar Advisors, a provider of investment and financial advice for high technology companies, as well as an advisor to the venture capital firm Cedar Funds. Prior to founding Cedar, he was a managing director in the high technology investment banking group of Bear, Stearns & Co. Inc. Mr. Israely managed numerous financings as well as merger and acquisition assignments for leading international technology corporations. He was also active in the firm's principal investment activities, and held operational management responsibilities. Prior to joining Bear Stearns, Mr. Israely worked as CFO and project manager of GIYO International. He currently sits on the boards of directors of several entrepreneurial technology companies, particularly in communications technologies.
Ran Oz
Ran Oz is chief technology officer of BigBand Networks, which he co-founded as a new breed of company combining advanced multimedia and communications technologies. He has been the primary visionary in the development of the company's products, now globally deployed and utilized for more and better services over more efficient networks. Under Oz' technical leadership, BigBand Networks is pioneering vital advances in digital television, on-demand and IP services, and he is directing the company towards leadership in the industry's next-generation network initiatives. Oz was part of the founding team of digital video technology provider Optibase (NASDAQ: OBAS), and was the primary technical co-founder of Optibase spin-out VCON Telecommunications (Nouveau March�: 022021), a vendor of IP video conferencing systems. Oz holds several patents in HFC networking, visual computing, media manipulation and other areas, and regularly publishes and presents on advanced technology topics at the most prominent broadband industry events. He is an electrical engineering graduate of the Technion Institute of Technology, and holds an MSEE from Tel Aviv University.
Bruce Sachs
Bruce Sachs, a partner at Charles River Ventures, focuses on communications infrastructure investments. He serves on the boards of directors of private companies active in wireless networking, VoIP, and data center networking, and has led venture capital investments in several companies that have held successful IPOs and been acquired by major infrastructure vendors such as Cisco Systems and Motorola. Prior to joining Charles River, Mr. Sachs was executive vice president and general manager of Ascend's (now Lucent) Carrier Signaling and Management Group, having joined Ascend through its acquisition of Stratus Computer, for which he was president and CEO. He was previously CEO of Xylogics (now Nortel), for which he led a turnaround and sale to Bay Networks where he served as an executive vice president and completed four acquisitions. Mr. Sachs started his career at AT&T Bell Laboratories and holds MBA, MSEE and BSEE degrees from Northeastern University, Cornell University and Bucknell University, respectively.
Robert Sachs
Robert Sachs, is a communications attorney and principal of Continental Consulting Group, a Boston-based cable and telecommunications consulting firm, which he co-founded in 1998. After that founding, from 1999 through 2005, Mr. Sachs served as president & CEO of the National Cable & Telecommunications Association. NCTA is the principal trade association of the cable television industry in the United States, representing cable operators, programming networks and equipment suppliers before the federal government. Prior to that, for almost two decades, Mr. Sachs served in executive positions with Continental Cablevision and its successor, MediaOne. Mr. Sachs has worked on the legislative staffs of a US senator and a US representative, as a full-time consultant to the White House Office of Telecommunications Policy and as legislative counsel to the National Telecommunications and Information Administration. He is a former director of the Advertising Council, CableLabs, Cable-in-the Classroom, and the Walter Kaitz Foundation. He has also served as a member of the Federal Communications Commission's Committee on Media Reliability and Security. Mr. Sachs holds a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Rochester, a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University and a law degree from Georgetown University.
Geoff Yang
Geoff Yang is a founding partner of Redpoint Ventures and was previously a general partner with IVP. He emphasizes investments in networking and digital media. Mr. Yang's networking investments include Calix Networks, Foundry Networks, Juniper Networks, MMC Networks, MySpace, Synoptics and Wellfleet. He has helped start digital media companies such as Excite and TiVo. He currently serves on the boards of directors of several private and publicly traded technology companies. Mr. Yang holds an MBA from Stanford University and BSE from Princeton University.
